Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya organized an Outreach Session on Fulbright Fellowships for Indian Citizens. Ms. Jhulan Ghose, Program Manager, United States-Indian Education Foundation, Fulbright Commission of India highlighted the different aspects of the fellowship. Ms. Ghose elaborately spoke about the duration and timeline, prerequisites, field of study, qualification criteria, application procedure, grants and benefits, resources, and research proposals required for the Fulbright Fellowships. Presently, there are different Fulbright Fellowship programs, out of which Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships, Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships (Duration: 6-9 months), Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (Duration: 8-24 months), Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships (Duration: 4-9 months), Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowships, Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowships, and Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International (FDAI) Teachers (Semester-long) are important for Doctoral, Post-Doctoral and Mid-career professionals. Ms. Ghose explained that the Doctoral and Post-Doctoral fellowships prefer interdisciplinary studies including but not limited to Agricultural Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Energy Studies, Earth Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy, Sociology, Gender Studies, etc. All the fellowships are designed for highly motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership, high levels of academic/professional achievements, and proficiency in English language. The program was a major motivational push for the students and faculties.
